Syrian port city Latakia 'attacked by missiles from sea' – local media

Syrian air defenses have engaged missiles targeting the area of Latakia, a city in the coastal province that is the home of Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base.

According to the state SANA news agency, the attack targeted the Technical Industries Agency headquarters in Latakia, owned by the Syrian military. Reports from the area refer to “powerful explosions” heard in the city.

Multiple local reports are accusing Israel of launching the strikes, but there has been no independent confirmation of that. Another possibility suggested by local media is that the drone attack was launched by jihadists in Idlib. However, SANA reported the missiles targeting Latakia came “from the sea,” citing military sources.

The attack comes just hours after Russia and Turkey negotiateda partial demilitarization of the Idlib province, which is the last remaining stronghold of anti-government militants, including the Al-Qaeda affiliate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (also known as the Jabhat Al-Nusra).

Trump Responds To Accusations Against Kavanaugh

President Donald Trump has responded to accusations against Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh by calling out the Democrats for sitting on the information for weeks; Trump assured the American people that the proper processes will be used moving forward in dealing with the allegation.

"Judge Kavanaugh is one of the finest people that I've ever known," Trump said. "He's an outstanding intellect and an outstanding judge, respected by everybody, never had even a little blemish on his record. The FBI has, I think, gone through a process six times him over the years, where he went to higher and higher positions. He is somebody very special."

"At the same time, we want to go through a process, we want to make sure everything is perfect, everything is just right," Trump continued. "I wish the Democrats could have done this a lot sooner because they had this information for many months and they shouldn't have waited until literally the last days, they should have done it a lot sooner."

"But with all of that being said, we want to go through the process," Trump added. "One thing I will say is that, as I understand it, Judge Kavanaugh spent quite a bit of time with Senator Feinstein and it wasn't even brought up at that meeting, and she had this information. So you would have thought, certainly, that she would have brought it up at the meeting, not wait until everything's finished and then have to start a process all over again."

Trump again doubled-down on making sure that people understand that he wants "to go through a full process" in dealing with the allegation, saying that "it's important" it happens that way.

Regarding the Democrats' call to delay Kavanaugh's confirmation vote, Trump said: "If it takes a little delay, it will take a little delay. It shouldn't, certainly, be very much."

Suspect shoots cop, but good Samaritan with concealed carry license is in right place at right time

An unidentified good Samaritan may very well have saved a police officer’s life by being in the right place at the right time with a concealed carry permit and a firearm.

What are the details?

According to WBBM-TV, the incident occurred Thursday when a suspect fired three shots on a Cicero, Illinois, police officer.

A good Samaritan — who wished to remain anonymous — stepped in and was able to return fire at the suspect. According to the Chicago Tribune, the good Samaritan did not hit the suspect. Despite not making contact, the man likely saved the officer’s life by simply distracting the suspect.

The 42-year-old man spoke with WBBM’s Mai Martinez, to whom he told the harrowing story.

The man said that he was stopped at a red light when he noticed that a police officer was attempting to stop a black Mercedes-Benz sedan. It all unfolded very fast — and the next thing he saw was the suspect exiting the car and firing off several rounds at Cicero Police Officer Luis Duarte.

The suspect reportedly struck Duarte several times. The good Samaritan was moved to act, pulling out his firearm and firing several rounds of his own at the suspect. The suspect continued to shoot at police, but Duarte’s partner was able to stop him by shooting the man multiple times in his ankle and leg.

“I was there in the right time and the right moment,” the good Samaritan explained. “My instincts, you know, told me to do what I did. I didn’t think twice to do what I did.”

He added, “Well, like I’m thinking you know, save that officer’s life you know, and then I tried to help that officer. I take a towel in my car and wrapped it around his arm.”

According to the Tribune, the good Samaritan also pulled his car up to the suspect and blocked traffic. That’s when he began providing medical aid to Duarte.

Cicero Police Department’s Commander Jerry Chlada told the station, “We were lucky enough to have a good citizen on the street who’s a concealed carry holder. And he also engaged in gunfire with the offender, who was struck one time.

How is the injured officer?

The Cicero Police Department tweeted about the officer’s medical status on Friday.

The tweet stated, “Update on Ofc Duarte: he is out of surgery and currently resting comfortably. Thank you to everyone for the Prayers and support!”

First-grade textbook reads like ‘propaganda’ for pro-gay gubernatorial candidate: conservative group

California Family Council blasts textbook

The president of the California Family Council, a conservative group, blasted the book.

“This lesson is supposed to be for first grade students, but it reads like a piece of political propaganda put together by the Democrat Party,” Jonathan Keller noted on the group’s website. “It is both premature and outrageous to list Gavin Newsom alongside universally loved American heroes like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Millions of Californians who voted twice to define marriage as the union of a man and a woman opposed Newsom’s flagrant defiance of our state’s marriage laws and use of the courts to push his personal views of marriage on the population.”

Keller added that the state’s Department of Education “is promoting the controversial political views of a candidate for governor to six year olds and blatantly smearing the sincerely held religious beliefs of countless families. This political puff piece should be removed from any public textbook.”

Greg Burt, the group’s director of capitol engagement, added to KOVR that the textbook is “way over the top. This looks like it was written by [Newsom’s] campaign staff.”

Judge Kavanaugh’s High School and College Girlfriends Speak Out in His Defense

Two women who dated Brett Kavanaugh, one in high school and one in college, have issued statements describing him as a perfect gentleman who was always respectful.

Kavanaugh’s high school girlfriend Maura Kane wrote that she has been friends with him for over 35 years and that in every situation where they were together he was always “respectful, kind and thoughtful.”

“The accusations leveled against him in no way represent the decent young man I knew. We remain good friends and I admire him as a husband, father and professional,” Kane added.

Maura Fitzgerald, who dated Kavanaugh in college, wrote that they have been friends since high school and that he is “nothing like the person who has been described.”

“He always conducted himself honorably with me at all times when we were together. He was always a perfect gentleman, and I vouch for him completely.

The women join a rapidly growing list of people who have vouched for Kavanaugh’s good character.

Christine Blasey Ford is a far-left activist who alleged Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her over 35 years ago while she was at a high school party in Maryland.

On Monday, Judge Kavanaugh told Senator Hatch that he was not even at the party in question!

NATO to Build Massive Command-and-Control Center in Afghanistan’s Capital

Almost 17 years after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, NATO is now bidding a contract to build a large, concrete command-and-control center in Kabul, the country’s capital and largest city.

According to a NATO procurement document, the complex is expected to consist of more than 800 work spaces, Stars and Stripes reported Monday. The structure is planned to be a three-story, 120,000-square-foot concrete building. However, according to officials, additional details cannot be released during the bidding and design phase of the project, Stripes and Stripes reported Monday.

Earlier this summer, a permanent passenger terminal and control tower were built at NATO's helicopter landing zone in Kabul due to an increase in air traffic and security concerns amid heightened violence in the capital.

"This project was accomplished rapidly… due to the significant increase of helicopter flights at [Resolute Support] RS HQ, which made the previous provisional arrangements untenable," the NATO Support and Procurement Agency said in a July statement.

During recent years, helicopter commutes to and from NATO's Resolute Support headquarters have become more frequent as bombings and ambushes have made road travel for coalition troops and officials risker. Civilian personnel who work at the US Embassy, which is adjacent to the NATO compound, are not allowed to travel to Kabul International Airport by road, John F. Sopko, special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, announced earlier this year.

Afghanistan has long been in a state of political turmoil, with the government unable to establish full control over the country's territory due to various terrorist factions, in particular the Taliban and Daesh.

In 2017, with Afghanistan's armed forces struggling to respond to terrorist attacks within the country, US President Donald Trump announced a resolution to send more troops to the war-torn state, while also appealing to NATO members to assist by increasing the numbers of their servicemen present in the war zone.

The US invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as a reaction to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, with the mission lasting until December 28, 2014. In 2015, NATO initiated a new mission, Resolute Support, which was aimed at providing training assistance to Afghan security forces. Nevertheless, seemingly endless US operations have shown limited effectiveness at establishing enduring peace in Afghanistan.

The Bluffer’s Guide to Bombing Syria

The propaganda mills of the British and American governments – spokespersons, media, think tanks – are working overtime churning out ‘talking points’ to justify the upcoming large scale bombing of Syria on the pretext of use of prohibited weapons.

Here is a guide from a former insider to the top dozen of these lies.

  1. There are more babies than jihadis in Idlib. As it happens this gem of moral blackmail is untrue. There are twice as many jihadis (about 100,000) as babies (0-1 year) (55,000). What is this factoid meant to say anyway? Don’t try to free an area of jihadis because you might harm a lot of children? The Western coalition scarcely heeded that consideration in razing Mosul and Raqqa in order to crush ISIS. They are still pulling babies out of the rubble in Raqqa.

  1. The reports [of the imminent chemical weapons ‘attack’] must be true because Assad has done it before. False. Since 2013 when Assad gave up chemical weapons under supervision of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) the OPCW have not visited the sites of alleged attacks in jihadi-controlled areas but have accepted at face value ‘reports’ from pro-jihadi organisations like the White Helmets and the Syrian American Medical Society, along with ‘evidence’ from hostile intelligence agencies. In the case of the one site the OPCW did visit, Douma, their report said they found no evidence of sarin, no untoward traces in any of the blood samples taken from ‘alleged victims’ (their term), no bodies and only ambiguous evidence of use of chlorine.

  1. The OPCW report on Douma was flawed because the Russians and Syrians caused delay. False. As documented in the OPCW report, delay was caused by UN bureaucracy and jihadi snipers. The inspectors do not say their findings were to any significant degree invalidated by the delay.

  1. Assad uses chemical weapons because they frighten large numbers of people into fleeing. False. They don’t. This desperate argument is trotted out to counter the fact that Assad would have to be stupid to use chemical weapons knowing what the result would be and that he would derive minimal military benefit. To date, not one of the alleged chemical attacks has precipitated an exodus any greater than flight caused by the legendary ‘barrel bombs’. The inhabitants of Douma by their own testimonies given to Western journalists were even unaware there might have been an attack until they heard about it in the media.

  1. The OPCW won’t be able to investigate because it won’t be safe. A feeble excuse to preempt calls for establishing facts before bombing. The Turks escort Western journalists into Idlib. They have hundreds of troops there and the jihadis kowtow to them because they control all logistics. The Turks could escort OPCW. And wouldn’t the jihadis be keener than anybody for the inspectors to visit if their claims were true?

Mexican Army Seizes Half Ton of Meth near Arizona

The Mexican Army seized 1,055 pounds of methamphetamine Friday near the Arizona border, adding to the number of significant drug busts in the last 30 days.

This most recent seizure took place on September 14 at approximately 6:25 pm when elements of the Mexican Army and Sonora State Police (PESP) responded to the outskirts of Caborca based on a lead regarding drug activity at a remote landing strip, according to local media reports.

Authorities observed a 2002 Jeep Cherokee on a remote highway heading into Caborca. The Jeep was occupied by two passengers with a rifle in the cabin. Several large, white sacks were in the back compartment of the vehicle. Upon further inspection, investigators discovered a total of 18 sacks carrying 756 plastic bags containing a substance consistent with methamphetamine or “cristal” as it is locally known.

The two males were identified as Andres B.F., 31, and Ivan O.G., 32, were both from Caborca. A search of the vehicle produced ammunition in various calibers, magazines, $18,000 pesos ($955.00 USD), and $1,000 USD to include six counterfeit U.S. $20 bills. The total weight of methamphetamine seized came out to 1,055 pounds (478.5 kilograms).

Investigators determined the methamphetamine arrived in the area via small airplane and was loaded into the Jeep bound for Caborca, according to a statement released by the Mexican Army. The two suspects were handed over to investigators for the federal prosecutor’s office. The methamphetamine is believed to be originally destined for the U.S. drug market–given Caborca’s location and the Sinaloa Cartel’s local smuggling operation into Arizona.

Migrants Illegally Entering Arizona by Hundreds, Says Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents in the Tucson Sector are witnessing significant increases in the number of migrants crossing illegally from Mexico. In roughly two weeks, four groups were apprehended–each consisting of more than 100 adults and children.

Ajo Station agents encountered a group of 121 migrants who crossed the border near the Senita Basin, north of the Lukeville port of entry. The group quickly turned themselves over to the custody of the agents, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.

Agents said the group was composed of 111 adults and children from Guatemala and another 10 from El Salvador.

Four days earlier, agents encountered a group of 163 several miles west of the Lukeville port of entry.

Another group of 103 was apprehended on August 28 and 128 more on August 20. The group of 128 was abandoned in the desert by their human smugglers, officials stated.

“This is where our law enforcement mission quickly turns from enforcing immigration laws to preserving life by ensuring the welfare and wellbeing of these migrant families,” Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch said in a written statement. “Transnational criminal organizations are exploiting these immigrant families and demonstrating their blatant disregard for human life.”

In the Yuma Sector, Border Patrol agents are also seeing an increase in migrant families and unaccompanied minors, Breitbart Texas reported. During a 33-hour period, agents arrested nearly 200, consisting of mostly Central American families and minors.

Despite the dangerous conditions through the Arizona desert, the Yuma Sector reports a more than 100 percent increase in FMUA and UAC apprehensions. Family unit apprehensions jumped from 5,429 in FY2017 to 12,367 in FY2018 year-to-date — an increase of 128 percent, according to the August Southwest Border Migration Report. Similarly, the apprehension of UACs jumped from 2,534 in FY2017 to 5,060 in FY2018 year-to-date numbers — an increase of 100 percent.

Tucson Sector officials report a 102 percent increase in FMUAs apprehended and a 40 percent increase in UACs. The report shows FMUA apprehensions rising from 1907 in FY2017 to to 3,860 in FY2018 while UAC apprehensions rose from 3,311 to 4,624 in the same periods.

“With the 128 percent increase in family unit apprehensions and 100 percent increase in unaccompanied alien children apprehensions in Yuma Sector, compared to the same time last year, we want to emphasize the extreme hazards that accompany crossing the border illegally during the summer months.” Yuma Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Porvaznik told Breitbart Texas in response to an email inquiry. “With peak days reaching close to 130 degrees, parents who are planning on crossing the border illegally need to seriously reconsider the possibly fatal dangers they will not only be subjecting themselves to, but their children as well.”

So far this year, at least 283 migrants died during their attempts to illegally enter the U.S., according to the Missing Migrant Project. At least 79 were in the Arizona desert.
