Russia's Ministry of Defence considers Israel's provocative actions hostile. This was explained by the official spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Igor Konashenkov.

"We classify Israel's provocative actions as hostile," Konashenkov said.

"We reserve the right to take adequate countermeasures," he continued.

In addition, Konashenkov announced that the 15 Russian military men had lost their lives because of actions for which the Israeli military was responsible. "This is absolutely not the spirit of the Russian-Israeli partnership," he stressed.

According to him, a search and rescue operation is currently being carried out at the site of the Il-20 crash.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defence had announced that a Russian military aircraft of type Il-20 had disappeared from the radar late Monday evening during a flight near the Russian air base Hmeimim in Syria.

The contact to the crew was broken at 23 o'clock local time - the reconnaissance airplane of the type Il-20 disappeared in a distance of 35 kilometers off the coast from the radar of the Russian air force base Hmeimim in Syria.

Russia's Ministry of Defence has shown the movement patterns of Israeli fighter jets and the Russian reconnaissance aircraft Il-20 shortly before its launch. RT published a screenshot of this via Twitter.

Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defence had announced that a Russian military aircraft of type Il-20 had disappeared from the radar late Monday evening during a flight near the Russian air base Hmeimim in Syria.

Israeli jets had been hiding behind the Russian plane and had started attacking targets in the Syrian province of Latakia at the time it was about to land. The Russian plane, with 15 military personnel on board, was thus shot down by the Syrian air defence S-200.
