Sessions bitch slap Chicago for having a shitty crime rate and losing population
The ACLU consent decree required police officers to submit a detailed report to the ACLU, a former federal judge, and a publicly available database after every single Terry stop.
Johnโs predecessor as United States Attorney, Zachary Fardon, said in an open letter to the City that the ACLU agreement โ[told] cops if you go talk to those kids on the corner, youโre going to have to take 40 minutes to fill out a form, and youโre going to have to give them a receipt with your badge number on it.โ
And he noted that as a result, by January 2016, โthe city was on fireโ because โthe rule of law, law enforcement, had been delegitimized.โ That is a devastating analysis.
-
After the consent decree pushed by the ACLU went into effect in 2016, these stops declined by 75 percent. Chicago police made 24 percent fewer arrests in 2016 than they made in 2015, and about half as many arrests as they made in 2011.
-(cites successful cities such a NY under Giuliani)
The proof is in. It can no longer be denied: disrespect and lack of support for police officers has real world consequences.
The work ahead of you is difficult, but it is not hopeless. It may take some time, but Chicago can choose a better future.
And so I would urge that the city take on a great mission to recognize the mistakes of the past and develop a plan for the future.

Alabama Secretary of State sued for blocking constituents on Twitter
BY AVERY ANAPOL - 09/19/18 02:29 PM EDT
The American Civil Liberties Union, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the three individuals, said in the claim that Secretary of State John Merrill violated the First Amendment rights of his own constituents by blocking them from viewing his official Twitter account.
"When a government official intentionally opens up a public conversation, that official can't block individuals from joining the conversation because of the views that are expressed,โ Brock Boone, an attorney with the Alabama ACLU, told AL.com.
One of the plaintiffs said that Merrill blocked her after she tweeted a question about crossover voting, while another says her account was blocked after she pointed out a typo on a ballot. The third plaintiff claims in the lawsuit that he "was blocked after asking Merrill about a speaking engagement,โ according to the news outlet.

The lawsuit comes several months after a federal judge ruled President Trump cannot block Twitter users over their political views. That ruling came in response to a lawsuit on behalf of seven individuals.
