This sample from the New Media Reader contains the reprinted text of No More Teachers' Dirty Looks by Ted Nelson that appeared in his book, Computer Lib/Dream Machines. It was originally publixhed in the September 1970 issue of Computer Decisions a magazine which quickly went defunct.
However Nelson's ideas did NOT die out. This article made a great influence on many people that went on to create the Internet, the World Wide Web, Hypertext, and so much more. It influenced the free courses that you can get from MIT, the online university types of companies like Udemy, Coursera and Khan Academy. This article and this book, "Computer Lib/Dream Machines" is where it all began. This idea took hold of the imaginations of 10s of thousands of people in the early 70's before there were any PCs around at all. The end result was that people created all the tech needed to realize the idea, and soon there was Hypercard for Macintosh and various other implementations which all influenced the design of the early WWW.
Want to change the educational system? Start here. Read it all, find the works referred to in it, and read them. This will give you a good overview of the problems and the vision that one man had to change it all. I think that to succeed in reforming education, we need people with a similar type of BIG VISION for how it will all work 10 and 20 years from now.
