You can see what's behind you.

Think of driving a car. As you look ahead and into the mirror you're actually trying to assess, analyze and plan how to adjust to what's in front of you from what's now going on behind you. What's behind has changed and that change is important to future actions.

I.E., rather than analyzing all things you will learn about (future) from a perspective you've established already, you should use what you see in future events to reassess past events.

Expand your thinking means growing your knowledge base range of actions rather than trying to cram and conform all new experiences into a model and method you've developed already.

Scott Adams uses the term 'label thinkers'. Someone sees something new and then tries to put a label on it to conform with something they believe already. That's being closed minded.

That's what I think, anyway.
