Lavrov: Idleb agreement aimed at eradicating terrorism in Syria
The agreement on Idleb is not final. Rather is an ‘intermediate step’ in the crisis settlement in Syria. According to him, this is a necessary step, as it will prevent shelling from the de-escalation zone in Idleb on the positions of Syrian army and the Russian military base in Hmeimim. “Al-Nusra Front terrorists should leave this demilitarized zone by mid-October; all heavy weaponry should be withdrawn from there.” Lavrov added that the United States’ control over the eastern bank of the Euphrates river posed the main threat to Syria’s territorial integrity, reiterating call on Washington to halt its illegal actions there.

Moscow: US pursues double standards policy on terrorism, mainly in Syria
The statement added that the United States’ tolerance of the various extremist movements is impeding the fight against the terrorist threat, especially al-Qaeda and Daesh (ISIS) terrorist organizations and their affiliated groups. “Many of the dangers of terrorism could have been addressed sooner if the United States had not tolerated extremists of all kinds, despite numerous warnings from the Russian side,” the statement added.

Syrian War Report – September 21, 2018: Threat Of Staged Chemical Weapons Attack In Idlib Remains
Jaysh al-Izza, one of the biggest Free Syrian Army groups in northwestern Syria has welcomed an implementation of the de-escalation zone agreement in Idlib, which was reached by Turkey and Russia earlier this month, the pro-opposition media outlet Enab Baladi reported on August 20. In a released statement, the group also thanked to Turkey for preventing a military operation by the Syrian Army and its allies in the province of Idlib and nearby areas. Jaysh al-Izza, which operates in northwestern and northern Hama, is widely known for being one of the key allies of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda). This may be an indication that Turkey has enough influence and willingness on militant groups in the area to force them to obey the demilitarized zone agreement, which is set to be fully imposed by October 20. However, the situation remains complicated.
