Mexican President Wants to Avoid Confrontation With Trump Over Migration Issue

Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has said that he does not want confrontation with the United States over the irregular migration issue and hopes for a dialogue.

Back in August, Lopez Obrador said that nobody would be able to intimidate Mexico with threats to build a border wall, apparently referring to Washington's relevant plans.

“We will not seek friction with President Donald Trump. I seek understanding … I would like to explain him what our plan on the migration phenomenon is,” Lopez Obrador said on Saturday, delivering a speech in the Mexican border state of Sonora.

He expressed hope that the two countries would continue to maintain good relations.

Trump has repeatedly pledged to build a wall on US-Mexico border in order to stop illegal migration, as well as human and drugs trafficking. Building a border wall was one of Trump's key promises throughout his presidential campaign.

The project has proven to be contentious as Trump originally claimed that Mexico would pay for building it while the Mexican government repeatedly said it would not. On July 31, Trump however said that that the construction of large portions of the wall on the border with Mexico had already started.

Iranian Supreme Leader Blames ‘US-Backed’ Countries for Ahvaz Terror Attack

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused the US-backed states of the region of being responsible for the terrorist attack in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz.

"The tragic and heartrending incident of the martyrdom of a group of our dear people in Ahvaz at the hands of the mercenary terrorists has once again exposed the atrocity and viciousness of the enemies of the Iranian nation … Their crime is a continuation of the conspiracies by the US-backed regimes in the region which have aimed at creating insecurity in our dear country," Khamenei said in a Saturday statement as quoted on his website.

He also expressed solidarity and sympathy to the families of the victims.

In turn, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also expressed his condolences, and ordered the Ministry of Intelligence to mobilize all security and military apparatus to quickly identify those responsible for the attack.

On Saturday, armed militants opened fire at a military parade, leaving at least 25 people killed and injuring another 60, according to media reports. The Saudi-linked Patriotic Arab Democratic Movement in Ahvaz has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif accused "regional terror sponsors and their US masters" of organizing the attack.

Meanwhile, US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert told Sputnik on Saturday that the United States supports the Iranian people in their fight against radical Islamic terrorism and condemns all terrorist acts.

Ahvaz terror attack extension of anti-Iran plots by US puppets in region: Leader

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the terrorist attack in the southwestern Iranian city of Ahvaz was the continuation of plots hatched by US stooges in the region to create insecurity in the country, adding that Iran’s intelligence services must swiftly find the accomplices of the "criminals” behind the attack and put them on trial.

In a message on Saturday, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his condolences over the terrorist attack on a military parade in Ahvaz earlier in the day which killed at least 25 people and injured more than 60 others.

Iranian Army Spokesman: Ahvaz Attackers Linked to US, Israel

Militants who carried out a terrorist attack on a military parade in the Iranian city of Ahvaz on September 22 are linked to the US and Israel, Iranian Armed Forces spokesman, Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, told the country’s news agency IRNA.

“These terrorists are not members of the Daesh [ISIS] and do not belong to groups fighting the Islamic system. These people are linked to the United States and [Israel’s] Mossad. These militants were organized and trained by two countries of the Persian Gulf,” Shekarchi told the news agency.

The military official added that Iranian forces elimiated four militants involved in the attack.

Earlier on the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif stated that “regional terror sponsors and their US masters” were behind the attack in Ahvaz, in which at least 24 people were killed and over 50 were injured.

It’s still unclear what group was behind the attack. A spokesman for the Ahvaz National Resistance, an militant group that claims to defend the rights of the Arab minority in Khuzestan, said the group was behind the attack. At the same time, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack via its news agency Amaq.

'It’s Like Suez Crisis': Ministers Warn Hard Brexit May Break Up UK

After her Brexit plan was rejected at last week’s EU summit in Salzburg, Prime Minister Theresa May has been facing renewed pressure from Cabinet ministers and prominent backbenchers to give up on her Chequers blueprint and seek a looser free trade deal with Brussels.

Brexiteers are pushing for a clean split from the European Union, a move some Cabinet ministers fear could precipitate the country’s breakup and effectively place a border between Britain and Northern Ireland putting the latter “in the departure lounge from the UK,” The Guardiaa wrote.

Some also fear that the move could reignite the debate about Scotland’s place in the UK and further unravel the union.

“Nobody voted Brexit to break up the UK,” one minister said. “Those advocating [the free trade deal] approach need to face up to the consequences for the union,” another said.

Since EU leader turned Theresa May’s Chequers deal during their summit in Salzburg last week, has been building once again among some prominent Tories behind the idea of securing a free trade deal, similar to that given to Canada.

The impasse has led senior Tories to compare the situation it to the 1956 Suez crisis that destroyed Anthony Eden’s premiership with a major Tory donor warning that “this will accelerate business concern even further. This ends up with us suffering a series of quite cataclysmic events."

“It is like the Suez crisis. You just don’t know what the unintended consequences will be. The next three weeks could change everything. The Suez crisis went on for months and this is up there with some of the great turning points in British political history,” he said.

Some Tory aides are worried about the lack of support for May’s Brexit roadmap and fear that another snap election may be needed before the end of the year.

On Wednesday and Thursday, EU heads of state and government gathered for an informal meeting in the Austrian city of Salzburg.

During the talks, May presented her Brexit plan to other EU leaders who characterized it as unworkable.

With the Brexit deadline now less than 200 days away, the two sides are yet to reach a divorce deal with officials increasingly expecting an informal October deadline to slip into November.
