Rupert Murdoch inherited a newspaper in Australia. With the help of thumb snappers in the "circulation department "who visited Sydney newstands to break thumbs to be sure Rupert's newspapers were prominently displayed and aggressive tabloid journalists Rupert won the circulation wars.
Murdoch's aggressive tabloid trained journalists stuck their feet in doors collecting news of the sex habits and business dealings of great and small. Murdoch's first paper outside Straya was The Sun, another tabloid which News Corp bought in 1969.
In 2018 New Corp net income is about $ 1.8 billion on revenue of ~ 9 billion.

Murdoch's business has grown enormously since the early days in Oz and UK. After his UK success did not bring him a peerage, Murdoch moved his headquarters from UK to US.
Murdoch stream of acquisitions created a highly leveraged company. When an economic downturn threatened News Limited solvency and the company has less than 5 m cash across all divisions predators like John Malone were circling the distressed company.
Murdoch needed big $$$ tfast o keep his empire from being parted out to rival cult criminals. Michael Milliken, the junk bond cultist criminal. would provide financing +, bundling New Corp excrement-tier junk bonds and selling them to other dodgy companies through MM's junk bond bucket shop Drexel Burnham Lambert.
Milken stole billions earning him a wrist slap from US regulators.

Anon's guess is that Murdoch is a gray hat, because he is, and has always been deeply mistructed by the Brits as a populist.
When Murdoch bought the New York Post, he asked the owners of the upscale Bloomingdales dept store why he didn't advertise in the NY Post. "Because your readers are our shoplifter's Rupert," Bloomingdale replied.
Murdoch recently sold FOX's TV business to Disney, presumably to finance the SKY acquisition. This deal is not likely to complete, as we know, Disney has collaborated extensively with CIA to deploy mind control technologies against the US civilian population. It seems unlikely Disney will continue to exist.
Whether Disney will exist long enough to complete the acquisition of FOX TV business isn't clear, but they will never be permitted to operate the business; allowing Disney to do so would be dangerous and detrimental to the US; and to human consciousness itself.
NONE of these companies can be trusted to operate business that serve the public. They have shown over and over again that their personal interest in financial gain and in winning competitions with each other trump public interest.
Whether Murdoch is a cultist is not clear. He may not be.
