Seriously, though, you are probably not all wrong. I was heavily influenced by Sitchin in my early years, so I tend to lean toward this theory.
Also check out Until the End of the World. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I keep thinking about and I wouldn't be surprised if it had a lot of parallels to what's going on now. The way it ends in particular, which I won't spoil.
