You miss the biggest point. There is a creator God above any other entity that deems themselves creators or Gods. The Universe is God and weither these other characters used DNA tricks to create Humanity does not mean there is not a creator God. It is a simple concept really.

The movie Brainstorm subtly hints that we are in a war and when we win it we are going to the Stars.
Brainstorm is the Declaration of War to the Cabal. Like the signers of the Declaration of Independence. When the MI guys brainstormed up the way to wiggle out from under the control of the "elite" they decided it deserved a shot across the bow. Brainstorm was the shot.

Brainstorm is two different movies on two different levels of understanding. One the straight forward plot and the other a story of archtypes and avatars of God and ArchAngel Micheal and the trinity and the meaning of life.
This is a mighty war and the start of our fight back deserved a story. So they made one.
