2014 LETTER TO THE EDITOR - STOP CHICKEN LITTLE POLITICS!
For more than five decades, government officials from both the Republican and Democratic parties have used the caring and trusting nature of Americans to take away our liberty. Many of us have heard of the story of Chicken Little, who when an acorn fell on his head cried, “The sky is falling!” For 50-plus years now, many politicians have used that same philosophy to increase regulations.
Now we have President Obama claiming that his new Environmental Protection Agency regulations will save lives (“EPA eyeing 30 percent emissions cut for power plants,” Web, June 1). This is another elaborate ruse to take away even more of our precious liberty, destroy jobs and place the economic future of our fellow Americans and their children at risk.
Most Americans are unaware that chlorofluorocarbons are nontoxic, nonflammable and nonhazardous — but some of their replacements, hydrofluorocarbons, are highly toxic, corrosive and flammable. For example, the replacement for the propellant in aerosol cans is now propane. It should not be surprising that there has never been a government study on how many lives were lost or harmed owing to these replacement chemicals, since that would run counter to their real objective of bigger government. American policies based on the bogus theory of “global warming” have placed America in a position to be replaced by China as the No. 1 economy in the world.
Is America still the land of the free and the home of the brave, or has it now become the land of the frightened?
