This is from my family history, I hope it helps and shows intermarriage.

1477 - Future Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, member of the Hapsburg family of Austria, married Mary on Burgundy, heiress of all the Netherlands.

1490 - Anne of Brittany married by proxy the recently widowed Maximilian of Hapsburg who had inherited Berundy and Flanders from his first wife. Brittany was under siege by France. Anne had her marriage annulled and married the French Dauphin.

1575 - William of Orange, facing defeat, offered the sovereignty of the Netherlands to Queen Elizabeth, who declined the offer.

1578 - Don John of Austria died, he was succeeded as Governor of the Netherlands by Alessando Farnese, Duke of Parma.

1581 - Seven northern provinces of the Netherlands renounced their allegiance to Philip II of Spain.

1584 - William of Orange, Prince of Orange, Count of Nassau was assassinated by Burgundian Balthazar Gerard on the orders of Philip II of Spain.

1585 - Elizabeth extended her protection to the Netherlands against Spain for the murder of William of Orange.

1688-1689 - James II replaced by Dutch King William. William of Orange was Dutch Protestant and Mary was his queen.

1689 - William Island Mary Lowered crowned as joint sovereigns of Britain.

1702 - The death of William III of Orange, Anne Stuart, sister of Mary, succeeded to the throne of England, Scotland and Ireland.
