I thought that too, but I think it's simpler. Later on when the names come out of who lost clearances they can be backtracked to see who was from wherever Dilly is really from. ( lot's of court records in Ca. plenty of documentation from his bio and book deal. I'd bet it's a childhood friend or family member.
Perhaps they found an eager sucker in Dilly with no hope of winning, who would latch onto the "Q" thing as a way to get donations and attention. The whitehouse had leaks. Dilly's source was a leaker who got purged, thus Dilly is a patsy. Hopefully the Whitehouse digs into Dillys "source" he may be more dangerous than was thought at the time of the purge.
