I used to think that the Republicans announced retirement and/or not running for re-election early on, so they could easily find replacements (and have POTUS stump for them). It also made sense that the stupid D's were hanging on, so they couldn't find replacements.
While true, NOT THE MAIN REASONS… Remember way back around Christmas-ish when POTUS called Schumer to the WH? Pelosi also summoned, but refused. Maxine? Guess what they were told?
