An obvious problem is that 18 may not have been the legal age of majority the year Brett turned 18. That is set state by state. In Michigan, I was an adult for a few months and when the law changed back to 21 was an adult until I was (ISTR) 20 … at which point the law changed again.
Granted, that doesn't make sense, but I wasn't making the law.
