If you long-press on the link, it will pop up a menu showing choices (save, open in new tab, etc). Then, just tap outside the choice box once, and it will disappear, but you'll see a preview of the post whose link you clicked on without getting sent into the abyss.
I'm using brave on an Android and it works. Can't comment on Apple devices or other browsers unfortunately.
