3D-printed gun creator jailed in Texas over sexual assault charge
The owner of a company that distributes blueprints to produce 3D-printed guns has been jailed in Houston following accusations of sexual assault involving an underage girl.
Reuters reported that Cody Wilson was booked into Harris County Jail on Sunday after he was arrested in Taiwan on Friday when his U.S. passport was annulled.
According to the news agency, Wilson caught a flight to Taiwan shortly after learning an affidavit was filed in Travis County, Texas, accusing him of paying a girl under the age of 17 $500 after the two had sex.
The 30-year-old founder of Defense Distributed was investigated after a counselor contacted police in August to report the incident, according to the affidavit.
The minor in question was interviewed by police earlier this week and a warrant was issued for Wilson's arrest on Wednesday, according to the news service. But by that point, Wilson had already flown to Taiwan.
At the time, Austin Police Commander Troy Officer told reporters Wilson frequently travels for business but that it was unclear why he went to Taiwan.
Wilson has captured headlines in recent months from the debate over 3D-printed guns.
