Also: adoption is a pretty great thing, if you're pretty great people! (Just sayin'. These kids deserve good things, too.)
I care very much what happens to me! And I also want the sickness to stop!
My preferred approach is to be grateful to/love the folks tasked with defending/protecting me and do my part by espousing values like "be good".
It's a pretty lazy way of doing things, tho.
