Trump says he’s an ‘absolute no’ on Puerto Rican statehood as long as San Juan mayor is in office

President Donald Trump has said that he is strongly against admitting Puerto Rico as the 51st state as long as San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz remains in office.

What did the president say?

In a pre-taped interview on Geraldo Rivera’s WTAM radio show that aired on Monday, Trump said, “With the mayor of San Juan as bad as she is and as incompetent as she is, Puerto Rico shouldn’t be talking about statehood until they get some people that really know what they’re doing.”

He added that statehood for Puerto Rico could be “something they talk about” as long as “you have good leadership” in the U.S. territory. But he added that “With people like that involved in Puerto Rico, I would be an absolute no.”

Cruz has been an outspoken critic of Trump, saying that she believes the president was negligent in his handling of the damage caused by Hurricane Maria and that he is “incapable of feeling solidarity and empathy.”

What did the governor of Puerto Rico say?

In a statement, Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló (D) said:

The president said he is not in favor of statehood for the people of Puerto Rico based on a personal feud with a local mayor. This is an insensitive, disrespectful comment to over 3 million Americans who live in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico.

He added:

How can the United States make the case for democracy at the United Nations this week, when they have under their flag the most populous colony in the world? I urge all political leaders in the nation to define their views towards our quest for equal treatment for the U.S. citizens in Puerto Rico.

Rosselló campaigned on a platform of statehood, and has continued to advocate for it.

In June, the territory’s non-voting representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, Jenniffer González-Colón (R), introduced legislation to admit Puerto Rico as a state. Colon tweeted out she did not think that Trump should make a decision that affected all Puerto Ricans based on “one bad mayor.”

What else?

Trump’s comments contradict the Republican Party platform, which affirms the right of Puerto Ricans to achieve statehood if they voted to do so.

The Republican Platform for 2016 stated, “We support the right of the United States citizens of Puerto Rico to be admitted to the Union as a fully sovereign state. “

The Democratic Party Platform the same year more vaguely stated, “Democrats believe that the people of Puerto Rico should determine their ultimate political status from permanent options that do not conflict with the Constitution, laws, and policies of the United States.”

Without statehood, Puerto Rico sends a non-voting member to the House of Representatives, but does not get a vote in either house of Congress. Its people, however, are full U.S. citizens and can move freely anywhere within the United States without a passport. They are also have any rights and privileges afforded to any other American citizens, although Puerto Rico’s lack of electoral votes means that they do not get a say in U.S. presidential elections.

Judicial Watch Statement on Kavanaugh Allegations

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton made the following statement in response to the latest efforts to delay Judge Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation:

Americans should brook no further delay of a full Senate vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.

Let’s be clear: Leftists are trying to blow up the Senate confirmation process with shady smears. There is no legitimate reason that these last-minute allegations can’t be summarily evaluated, and a Judiciary Committee vote taken this week.

Leftist law breaking, rule breaking, violence, and disruption have already marred the public Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. One can only imagine the disruptive show trial Leftists plan with Kavanaugh’s accusers. The Senate should shut this circus down and move the Kavanaugh confirmation to a timely vote.

Will the Senate allow its confirmation process to be turned into a search-and-destroy mission by leftist partisans? The vote to confirm can’t come soon enough. That the Senate hasn’t voted yet is shameful.

It is urgent you let your Senators know how you feel about the Kavanaugh confirmation process. You can reach your Senators at 202-224-3121.

==HERE WE GO=Creepy Porn Lawyer Avenatti Says Client Will Go Public With Kavanaugh Accusations of Gang Rape in Next 48 Hours==

As TGP’s Kristinn Taylor reported, porn star lawyer and Trump antagonist Michael Avenatti joined the attack on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh with an announcement via Twitter Sunday night that he represents a woman who has ” credible information regarding Judge Kavanaugh and Mark Judge.”

Michael Avenatti called for Kavanaugh’s nomination to be withdrawn.

Avenatti made it clear his client is not the woman in the New Yorker Kavanaugh hit piece who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault at a Yale party decades ago.

On Sunday, Avenatti said, “I represent a woman with credible information regarding Judge Kavanaugh and Mark Judge. We will be demanding the opportunity to present testimony to the committee and will likewise be demanding that Judge and others be subpoenaed to testify. The nomination must be withdrawn.”

Michael Avenatti took his grotesque attacks to the next level and informed the Senate he is accusing Kavanaugh and witness Mark Judge of getting women intoxicated at parties with drugs and alcohol so they could be gang raped by a “train” of men.

The creepy porn lawyer told The Hill Monday that his client, Kavanaugh’s 3rd alleged accuser will go public with her accusations by Wednesday.

Via The Hill:

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer who says he has “credible information” about more sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, said Monday that he expects his new client will appear for an on-camera interview within the next 48 hours.

Avenatti told The Hill that he anticipates his client will go public with her accusation against the Supreme Court nominee in a television interview within the next two days.

“We anticipate that that is what is going to occur,” Avenatti said, confirming an earlier report from Politico.

He said he does not know which station she will appear on, adding, “We have not finalized the details.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) blasted Democrats and their 11th hour “me too” ambush from the Senate floor Monday afternoon.

McConnell said the resistance has become a smear campaign aided and abetted by members of the U.S. Senate.

Senator McConnell also said that Kavanaugh will be voted on the Senate Floor–up or down on the Senate floor.

Brett Kavanaugh sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday and said he will not be intimidated into withdrawing.

Mr. Brett Kavanaugh and his lovely wife Ashley Kavanaugh will appear on FOX News in an interview with Martha MacCallum Monday evening at 7 PM ET.

TOP FOOKIN KEK

Axios Issues Critical "Clarification" To Rosenstein Resignation Report

Update 5: Jonathan Swan, the Axios reporter who initially broke the news this morning that Rod Rosenstein had "verbally resigned" and subsequently triggered a drop in the Dow that erased billions of dollars in value, has issued an important "clarification" that - as fate would have it - changes the story from a major news-cycle-dominating revelation to a barely noteworthy tidbit.

After sparring with Vanity Fair reporter Gabriel Sherman, who suggested that Swan "got played" by a White House insider looking to distract from the second Kavanaugh revelation, Swan has admitted that the phrasing of his initial report was a little off. Instead of reporting that Rosenstein had "verbally resigned", Swan said he meant to say that Rosenstein had verbally offered his resignation to Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Note for readers: I regret the way I wrote this morning's version of the story. By saying Rosenstein had "verbally resigned" to Kelly rather than "offered his resignation," I conveyed a certainty that this fluid situation didn’t deserve. It’s an important nuance, and I regret the wording.

We're sure all of those algos that sold on the headline also "regret" their error, too.
