i'm not sure if anyone's brought this up yet but this is an interesting article about instagram's ceo/co-founder, the one who just resigned..

https://www.wired.com/2017/08/instagram-kevin-systrom-wants-to-clean-up-the-internet/

INSTAGRAM’S KEVIN SYSTROM WANTS TO CLEAN UP THE &#%$@! INTERNET.

KEVIN SYSTROM, THE CEO of Instagram, was at Disneyland last June when he decided the internet was a cesspool that he had to clean up.

Who wants to express themselves, though, if they’re going to be mocked, harassed, and shamed in the comments below a post? Instagram is a bit like Disneyland—if every now and then the seven dwarfs hollered at Snow White for looking fat.

When the service launched in 2010, he and Krieger deleted hateful comments themselves. They even personally banned users in an effort Systrom called “pruning the trolls.” He notes that Krieger “is always smiling and always kind,” and he says he tries to model his behavior after that of his wife, “one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.”

….

he told his colleagues that they had a new mission. Instagram was going to become a kind of social media utopia: the nicest darn place online.

i wonder he and his fellow cofounder really resigned?

INSTAGRAM IS A relatively small company. It has only about 500 employees—roughly one person for every 1.5 million active users. And the team that has trained the machines to be kind is tiny too.

only 500 employees? yea a company that small could definitely tank amidst controversy.. twitter/facebook/google/apple are all going down imo

at least temporarily, esp if

  1. they are proven to selectively censor people based on political beliefs and/or they are proven to be in violation of first amendment rights when they suspend, shadowban, delete, censor etc. on their platforms .. not a lawfag but giant civil suits maybe?

  1. when people finally learn the truth and find out all these companies were deliberately keeping it from them/were basically propaganda machines

  1. when they are designated public utility and/or public spaces

like how are they going to survive all that… and who knows what else is coming

maybe we'll have something else to use that doesn't have addicting dopamine-hitting like buttons for validation, that doesn't require people to make brands of themselves, that encourages equality and discourages hierarchy

a place of all leaders and no followers..

what if everything else shuts down and the whole world comes to 8ch?

what effect might that have on humanity? rapidly?
