Christine Blasey Ford.

Rallies For Christine Blasey Ford as Fresh Accusations Arise

Supporters Gather in San Francisco and Palo Alto

SAN JOSE (KCBS Radio) – While another potentially explosive allegation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh surfaced, Bay Area supporters of the first woman to accuse him of sexual misconduct rallied.

Sunday night rallies in Palo Alto and San Francisco brought out people who held signs sporting slogans such as "We Have Your Back" and "I Believe You Christine". Another rally is scheduled for Monday on the UC Berkeley campus.

The show of support for Ford comes days before she's scheduled to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee. The 7 am PDT hearing on Thursday will be carried live on KCBS Radio.

And it comes as media reports reveal more Bay Area residents with connections to the Kavanaugh story.

The Washington Post reported former San Francisco radio talk show host Bernie Ward taught both Kavanaugh and Mark Judge, who Dr. Ford says was in the room when she said Kavanaugh assaulted her. Ward, who later spent time in federal prison on a child pornography conviction, recalled a culture of heavy drinking.

Ward, who taught religion and sexuality classes at Georgetown Prep, told the Post he talked often with the students at the all-boys high school about their extracurricular activities. "They took umbrage when I compared their rooting around with girls to dogs in heat," said Ward.

The New Yorker report focused on the accusation of Deborah Ramirez, who attended Yale University with Kavanaugh. She said he exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party.

Two men who now live in the Bay Area were identified in the report as having been aware of incidents similar to the one Ramirez described. One, Richard Oh, is an emergency-medicine physician with Kaiser Permanente.

The other, James Roche, is CEO of Helix Re, a San Mateo-based software company spun out of the Google X project. He told the New Yorker that he recalled Kavanaugh being "frequently, incoherently drunk", and of his accuser, Ramirez, "I cannot imagine her making this up."
