DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE APRIL FREEMAN DIES UNEXPECTEDLY
A Democratic candidate running for Congress in Florida has died unexpectedly, according to a statement released by her husband Monday afternoon.
It remains unclear how she died.
Freeman won the Democratic nomination to represent the party in the race for Florida’s 17th Congressional District. She was going up against Greg Steube in the general election come November.
Steube told The Daily Caller, “My thoughts & prayers are with April Freeman’s family in the wake of her tragic passing. I respect her service to our community and admire her commitment to the causes she cared about. Out of respect to her memory, next week’s campaign event will be cancelled.”
According to a Florida statute, “the state party chair shall notify the appropriate county chair or chairs and, within 5 days, the appropriate county chair or chairs shall call a meeting of the members of the executive committee in the affected county or counties to consider designation of a nominee to fill the vacancy.”
The incumbent congressman, Thomas Rooney, opted to not seek re-election after serving both the 16th and 17th districts over the last decade.
