Gavin Newsom Appears in 1st-grade Textbook with Abraham Lincoln, MLK

Parents in a Sacramento, California suburban school district were shocked this week to discover that Lt. Gov Gavin Newsom, the Democratic Party candidate for governor in November, is portrayed in a first-grade textbook as a “champion for people’s rights.”

The textbook celebrates Newsom alongside such icons as President Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — apparently for his decision, as mayor of San Francisco, to recognize gay marriages in 2004.

Local Fox affiliate FOX40 reported Thursday:

“There was different various heroes we’d typically see in a first-grade class, like Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King. And then there was Gavin Newsom, and I go, ‘Well that’s interesting,'” Burt said.

The book explains how as Mayor of San Francisco, Newsom said people could marry who they choose, saying, “Sometimes, Gavin helped marry people. Some marriages were not between a man and a woman. He made sure that people’s rights were respected.”

Critics likened Newsom’s portrayal to communist propaganda for sentences such as: ” “Gavin said that people could marry who they choose. Sometimes, Gavin helped marry people. Some marriages were not between a man and a woman. He made sure that people’s rights were respected.”

A district official told FOX40 that “this book helps the district stay in compliance with the FAIR Education Act, a state law that requires history and social science books include heroes to minority groups.” One local news source suggested that the book was a preview of the final version.

Dumbing Down America: Teacher Fired for Not Giving Students Partial Credit For Work They Never Did

A teacher was fired after she refused to abide by school policy of giving students 50% grades despite them doing zero work.

Port St. Lucie, FL — A teacher in Port St. Lucie, Florida is now speaking out about how she was fired for refusing to give students partial credit for work that they never turned in. That’s right, for giving students a zero for completing zero percent of their work, Diane Tirado says she was fired. School policy dictates that she was supposed to give them at least 50 percent—for nothing.

“I got fired. I was packing my stuff, and I was not going to see the kids,” former teacher, Diane Tirado said.

Because she wasn’t allowed to say goodbye to her students, Tirado wrote the following message on her whiteboard, explaining what happened. The words are profound and expose a major problem with “education” in America today.

“Bye kids, Mrs. Tirado loves you and wishes you the best in life! I have been fired for refusing to give you a 50% for not handing anything in. [heart] Mrs. Tirado.”

Tirado then snapped a photo of her statement and walked out of the school doors for the last time. She then uploaded that photo to social media, which went viral for all the right reasons.

Ukrainian Diplomat Reveals How Clinton Operatives Sought Dirt on Trump

Andrii Telizhenko, a former high-ranking Ukrainian diplomat known well in Washington circles, had vital information about collusion between elements of Ukraine’s Petro Poroshenko administration and the US’ Democratic National Committee (DNC) to dig up - or create - dirt on Donald Trump, but he has been chronically ignored by US investigators.

Telizhenko appeared as a key source in a January 2017 Politico article by Ken Vogel titled, "Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire: Kiev officials are scrambling to make amends with the president-elect after quietly working to boost Clinton."

While Telizhenko did far from tell all in the Politico story, his name was out there as someone with more information on the mysterious Steele dossier, which has generated so much speculation — not to mention lawsuits — regarding the veracity of its contents and sources.

Still, Telizhenko told Radio Sputnik's Fault Lines on Wednesday, nobody ever tried to contact him, nor accepted the offers he made repeatedly to Washington higher-ups to testify about what he knew.

Telizhenko even noted that he was invited to, and attended, Arizona Senator John McCain's funeral, but "we did not talk about that topic."

Noting that there is no excuse for anyone he's reached out to to doubt his credentials and credibility, Telizhenko said, "What I think is going on is that Ambassador Chaly and the people around him are spreading the word that I'm Russian propaganda, a Russian spy."

"It was really strange. I remember I was in Washington on July 4 that year, and I was in Washington, DC, on August 15 to 18, and nobody reached out. Nobody. Before the tweet and after the [Trump] tweet. It was like nobody even cared, unfortunately."

US Flies More B-52 Bombers Near Disputed Territories in South China Sea

Poking China in its side, the US Air Force conducted several B-52 bomber flights over the South China Sea this week, a move likely to draw Beijing's ire.

This week saw several American bombers flying across the contested region, with four B-52s transiting through skies over the South China Sea on Monday and an additional batch on Tuesday that traveled above the East China Sea.

Lt. Col. Dave Eastburn told Reuters on Wednesday that the bombers were participating in a "regularly scheduled, combined operation" that was part of "routine events designed to enhance our readiness and interoperability with our partners and allies in the region."

"The United States military will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows at times and places of our choosing," Eastburn added.

Bombers on Tuesday were reportedly escorted by Japanese fighter jets as all parties made their way through the Diaoyu Islands, according to CNN. Though the uninhabited islands are controlled by Japan, China has claimed them as its own.

When asked about this week's flybys, US Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters at the Pentagon on Wednesday that the flights were "nothing out of the ordinary."

"That just goes on. If it was 20 years ago, and had [China] not militarized those features there, it would have been just another bomber on its way to Diego Garcia or wherever," he said. Diego Garcia, the largest island of the Chagos Archipelago, is used by the US as a military base in the region.

The latest development comes after Chinese authorities denied the US Navy's amphibious assault ship USS Wasp port in Hong Kong after the US sanctioned the Chinese military for purchasing Russian military equipment. The rejected vessel was part of a group operating in the Indo-Pacific region, according to Bloomberg.

10 Ways Big Tech Can Shift Millions of Votes in the November Elections—Without Anyone Knowing

A researcher describes 10 ways Google, Facebook, other companies could shift millions of votes in the US midterms

Authorities in the UK have finally figured out that fake news stories and Russian-placed ads are not the real problem. The UK Parliament is about to impose stiff penalties—not on the people who place the ads or write the stories, but on the Big Tech platforms that determine which ads and stories people actually see.

Parliament’s plans will almost surely be energized by the latest leak of damning material from inside Google’s fortress of secrecy: The Wall Street Journal recently reported on emails exchanged among Google employees in January 2017 in which they strategized about how to alter Google search results and other “ephemeral experiences” to counter President Donald Trump’s newly imposed travel ban. The company claims that none of these plans was ever implemented, but who knows?

While U.S. authorities have merely held hearings, EU authorities have taken dramatic steps in recent years to limit the powers of Big Tech, most recently with a comprehensive law that protects user privacy—the General Data Protection Regulation—and a whopping $5.1 billion fine against Google for monopolistic practices in the mobile device market. Last year, the European Union also levied a $2.7 billion fine against Google for filtering and ordering search results in a way that favored their own products and services. That filtering and ordering, it turns out, is of crucial importance.

As years of research I’ve been conducting on online influence has shown, content per se is not the real threat these days; what really matters is (a) which content is selected for users to see, and (b) the way that content is ordered in search results, search suggestions, newsfeeds, message feeds, comment lists, and so on. That’s where the power lies to shift opinions, purchases, and votes, and that power is held by a disturbingly small group of people.

Part 2

Cont. from images:

Full disclosure: I happen to think that the political party currently in favor in Silicon Valley is, by a hair (so to speak), the superior party at the moment. But I also love America and democracy, and I believe that the free-and-fair election is the bedrock of our political system. I don’t care how “right” these companies might be; lofty ends do not justify shady means, especially when those means are difficult to see and not well understood by either authorities or the public.

Can new regulations or laws save us from the extraordinary powers of manipulation the Big Tech companies now possess? Maybe, but our leaders seem to be especially regulation-shy these days, and I doubt, in any case, whether laws and regulations will ever be able to keep up with the new kinds of threats that new technologies will almost certainly pose in coming years.

I don’t believe we are completely helpless, however. I think that one way to turn Facebook, Google, and the innovative technology companies that will succeed them, into responsible citizens is to set up sophisticated monitoring systems that detect, analyze, and archive what they’re showing people—in effect, to fight technology with technology.

As I mentioned earlier, in 2016, I led a team that monitored search results on multiple search engines. That was a start, but we can do much better. These days, I’m working with business associates and academic colleagues on three continents to scale up systems to monitor a wide range of information the Big Tech companies are sharing with their users—even the spoken answers provided by personal assistants. Ultimately, a worldwide ecology of passive monitoring systems will make these companies accountable to the public, with information bias and online manipulation detectable in real time.

With November drawing near, there is obviously some urgency here. At this writing, it’s not clear whether we will be fully operational in time to monitor the midterm elections, but we’re determined to be ready for 2020.

A new letter signed by 60 classmates of Judge Brett Kavanaugh says they have never even met a woman named Julie Swetnick.

Swetnick claims that she was attending parties that Kavanaugh was also present at, and stood around while girls were being gang raped — until it happened to her. She also claims that she went to at least ten of these parties without reporting them to authorities.

In the letter obtained by Daily Caller White House correspondent Saagar Enjeti, the classmates tell Chairman Grassley and Ranking Member Feinstein that “in the extensive amount of time we collectively spent with Brett, we do not recall having even met someone named Julie Swetnick.”

“Nor did we ever observe Brett engaging in any conduct resembling that described in Ms. Swetnick’s declaration,” the letter continues.

The classmates went on to reaffirm that Kavanaugh is a “good man” who has always “treated women with respect and decency.” They additionally called for an end to the “shameful attacks” which are “harming good people.”

Kavanaugh has also denied knowing Swetnick and referred to the allegations as something out of the “Twilight Zone.”
