Racism, Xenophobia, Intolerance and Discrimination – Oh Dear! (ODIHR)

The Center for Security Policy and it’s allies have been giving some serious push back to threats against free speech at the this year’s Organization for Security & Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) in Warsaw, Poland. Participants are 56 countries, which includes Europe, Central Asia and North America, as well as large and small NGO’s from the area. Why should you care? Because statements and recommendations from these conferences heavily influence political decision-making and so it is quite an influential organisation.

The following are some of the highlights starting with an OSCE official laying out their agenda. Please also see my recent post on the conference:

How Trump Rescued Our Economy From Obama’s ‘New Normal’

Obama was the only president in history to never see economic growth above 3 percent. The economy averaged just over 2 percent for his entire two terms. He referred to 2 percent growth as the “new normal.”

Trump flatly rejected this “new normal.” After entering office in January 2017, he spent much of February and March reversing many of Obama’s counterproductive regulations. By April 2017, the economy was back growing at a healthy 3 percent, which has since been maintained or increased.

By the end of 2017, Trump had convinced Congress to cut income taxes for all Americans, including those who supply capital: high income-earners and corporations. Since April of this year, the economy has been booming at a rate of more than 4 percent.

Help release the FBI’s files on notorious CIA-tied drug smuggler Barry Seal

The Bureau found 21,826 pages of records on Seal, whose life touched on some of the most significant narcotics cases - and one of the biggest political scandals - of the 20th century

Barry Seal, a pilot and major smuggler for the Medellin cartel, became a DEA informant before being assassinated on the orders of Pablo Escobar in 1986. In 1988, House Judiciary Committee testimony revealed that Seal took part in a sting operation in which CIA installed cameras on his plane, allowing him to photograph Escobar and other members of the Medellin Cartel load large amounts of cocaine for transportation with the help of the Sandinista Minister of the Interior. These photographs were used by President Reagan as part of his effort to raise support for the Contras.

Liberal Billionaire Complains About NYC Traffic, Tweets Idea to Hike Fares

John Arnold, a billionaire and former Enron executive, thinks he can fix New York’s congestion by charging people to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Finally, and perhaps most controversially, Arnold proposed hiking the cost of sitting in traffic. That includes hiking the rates for bus fares and taxis. It would force ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft to increase surge pricing. And it would discourage people from commuting into busy areas like Manhattan from outer boroughs, New Jersey, or upstate New York. Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) said he supported such a move, but legislation stalled in Albany earlier this year.
