The cognitive interview is used to retrieve a victim's memory. Here are the steps.

  1. The eyewitness is asked to return mentally to the scene of the crime and review everything about the scene and the people there.

  2. The subject is asked to report everything that comes to mind about the incident and the scene.

  3. The witness is then asked to recall the events in reverse order or in an order that progresses both forward and backward from a point in time.

  4. The subject is asked to recall the incident from a different perspective or from the perspective of others who were present.

I propose that with this type of interview, the interviewer, one-on-one and not in the current hearing setting, they can get more detailed information from Ford. If a lawyer wanted to try this in court (criminal/civil) then the cognitive interview is more powerful in providing a shadow of doubt or preponderance of evidence instead of polygraph.

That is what I think the prosecutor will state later.
