Interior Department sting results in several opioid arrests in North Carolina
"A drug sting lead by Interior Department law enforcement officers this week resulted in the arrest of 75 individuals and the seizure of 248 pounds of heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl and marijuana on Indian land.
The operation, conducted over the course of several months in North Carolina is part of the administration's push to thwart the opioid drug trade, an effort that's been called the President's Joint Opioid Reduction Task Force.
Interior law enforcement officers operating in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian Police Department and other agencies seized the narcotics, along with seven guns, through an undercover operation that began in March, according to Interior officials.
The most recent series of arrests began Monday.
"First and foremost, bravo zulu to the dozens of law enforcement professionals who are on the front lines and putting their own lives at risk to take these deadly drugs off the streets," Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said in a statement. "President Trump and I could not be prouder of their work."

"U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Swanton Sector apprehended 10 Romanian citizens as they attempted to illegally enter the United States on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday afternoon, the Tactical Communications Center of the Swanton Border Patrol Sector notified U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Champlain Station that there were two women and two children illegally crossing the international boundary into the United States near Meridian Road in Champlain, NY. Border Patrol agents responded to the area and encountered two adult women and their two minor children. During questioning, the women stated they were Romanian citizens and admitted that they and their children do not possess any immigration documentation allowing them to enter or remain in the United States. Agents took the group into custody and transported them to the Champlain Border Patrol Station for processing."

TUCSON, Ariz. – Ajo Station Border Patrol agents apprehended four illegal aliens Wednesday afternoon with the assistance of Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies participating in Operation Stonegarden.
After a U.S. Customs and Border Protection air asset saw a group of individuals in a remote area west of Lukeville, a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office helicopter air crew quickly responded to the location.
With the guidance of a sheriff’s deputy onboard the helicopter, agents on the ground arrested four Mexican nationals, all illegally present in the United States.
The four illegal aliens, ages 18 through 36, will be processed for immigration violations.
Collaboration between state, local, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies has created a greater force against transnational criminal organizations in southern Arizona and the disruption of illicit activities in border communities.
Operation Stonegarden is a Department of Homeland Security program, managed by the Border Patrol, which grants funds to other law enforcement agencies to enhance and strengthen border security throughout the United States."

Democrat awaiting corruption trial found dead; autopsy planned
"A former Massachusetts state senator awaiting trial on federal corruption charges was found dead in his home Thursday, authorities said.
The body of former state Sen. Brian A. Joyce, 56, was found by his wife, the Bristol County District Attorney's office said in a statement. The DA’s office said “foul play” was ruled out for the time being.
Joyce was reportedly involved in a car crash Wednesday, but it was unclear if that incident was connected to his death. Massachusetts’ chief medical examiner is slated to conduct an autopsy. "

Former Pinnacle Airlines CEO shot dead in Memphis
"The former CEO of Pinnacle Airlines has been fatally shot in Memphis, Tennessee.
Authorities say Philip Trenary was killed in a shooting Thursday night on South Front Street in downtown Memphis about 8 p.m.
Trenary also served as the CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber.
The death was confirmed by Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland."
