Even if he's made bad decisions or acted dishonestly in the past, it's pretty easy to believe that someone with a shred of decency would jump at the chance to speak the truth and do the right thing for a change if they were finally free to do so.
Honestly the requirement of her quickly losing a bunch of weight is the most far fetched part of this scheme.
