Yeah, but …

  1. Vote on Motion to proceed to the nomination

2a. File cloture motion

2b. Vote on Cloture motion to limit debate

  1. Vote on the nomination

At least 30 hours between 2b and 3

At least a day between 2a and 2b

Indefinite time between 1 and 2

Motion to proceed to the nomination just passed on a typical fake voice vote, with only McConnell in the well of the Senate.

Yep. Adjourned until Monday. Senate agreed to take up the Kavanaugh nomination, that's the first vote. People who don't watch the senate won't recognize one person standing there can "pretend" the whole senate is there and voting. I am sure all senators gave permission for this vote charade, and the Congressional record will show passage on a voice vote.

The fireworks will be conducted around the cloture vote, step 2b in the framework in 3238529

Motion to proceed to consider the nomination passed in a fairly regular way, majority leader standing in the well as a proxy for the whole Senate.

I predict a cloture motion will be filed on Monday. Takes 6 senators to do that. After one day, the cloture motion can be, but need not be voted on. A failed cloture motion survives, and can be re-voted, or a fresh one filed on the same nomination. GWB had nominees with up to 5 or 6 cloture motions.

Taking up the nominee does NOT start any clock. It just puts the matter before the senate.
