The vatican altered revelations because people started equating it to them. Many original parchments are lost (or hidden) so it's difficult to verify all of the potential changes in the Book of revelations as well as many of the gospels.
Matthew is legit. It was verified by Nehemiah Gordon (the vatican let him see the parchment). The book of John, if I remember correctly, has been verified. Just FYI what I know.
