First it would go to special election rules, which I don't know what Cali has. Some Governors can just appoint an acting senator until the election. They could hold more elections ,ect. It's not as simple as just kick Feinstine out right before and assure a republican can get on the docket. Given that area, its not even likely that a republican would win against a democrat if they made it on the docket.
