In John 6, Jesus tells His followers to that unless they eat His flesh and drink His blood they shall have no life in them.

This teaching was too hard and a bunch of them deserted Jesus.

Did He run after them and say, "Wait up, guys! I was just being symbolic! Come back!"

If you were a covenant-loving Jew at the time, this would have been easy to understand.

When the Israelites sacrificed a lamb to God, they would kill it and then eat it's flesh.

Jesus formed the "New and Everlasting Covenant". We killed Him as a willing sacrifice and that's why we then have to eat Him.

Covenant theology, baby.

He's actually saying that unlike the manna from Heaven, which the Israelites ate and died

By partaking in the Eucharist, you will eat it and live forever when we're all raised up for the Final Judgement.

The ignorant, anti-Catholic, Protestant lies you're hoking on are on par with the outlandish nonsense Louise Mensch is able to concoct based on the news.

Jesus did not run after those who left to clarify.

YOU left out the part where He asks His Apostles if they will leave too after the foreshadowing to the Eucharist and they respond, "To whom shall we go?"

That's the response of people who do not understand, but have faith in God.

Your faith is weak. Prayers for you and the millions of Protestants who have walked away from the true Church because many of its teachings are too challenging for lazy minds.
