GE is only important due to their size.
nearly every acquisition they have made has gone south once the GE "management team" and GE corporate practices are installed.
Experienced people are let go and new people are installed at lower salary. They love H1B employees. They remove all humans wherever possible, which is why you cannot reach anyone at their locations if you do not have a direct phone line or someones cell.
BakerHughes is literally being swept from the market due to the inability of GE to formulate a strategy. It took me 6 weeks to get a simple quote from GE/BakerHughes and it was the wrong quotation. I called and they sent another wrong quote that took 2 weeks to generate.
