Democrat Supreme Court Drinkers?: Breyer Busted for Underage Drinking, Ginsburg âNot 100 Percent Soberâ at Obama State of the Union
While Democrats and the media are dragging Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh for his admitted drinking âtoo muchâ at times in school, it should be remembered that two Justices appointed by Democrat President Bill Clinton and approved by a Democrat controlled Senate, Stephen Breyer (1994) and Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1993) have their own history of alcohol troubles.
Justice Ginsburg, with Justice Breyer to her immediate left, âfell asleepâ after drinking wine before President Obamaâs 2015 State of the Union address.
Justice Breyer, 80, was arrested for underage drinking when he went to Stanford in the 1950s reported the Washington Post back in 1994:
âAt Stanford, he had his share of high jinks, getting arrested at one point for underage drinking. But after four years, he had received just one B, which left him, in the words of a classmate, âdistraught.ââ
Breyer spoke about the arrest to NPR in 2015
Transcript via the blog ieyenews.com:
âWe were in a restaurant, which was where they used to sing opera and serve wine. It was called the Bocce Ball, I think. It was very nice. Youâd go there, and I think I was 18âI was 18âbut the drinking age was 21 and theyâd give you a glass of wine and youâd sit there and listen to the opera singers from the San Francisco Opera and have a glass of wine. There was sawdust on the floor. It was very nice, it was a lovely place. ⌠The police apparently raided this opera restaurant and arrested everybody in sight who looked under 21 and there we are, but they didnât proceed with it further and they sort of wiped out the arrest record.â
Breyerâs Wikipedia page has no mention of his arrest for underage drinking.
Justice Ginsburg, 85, spoke about âfalling asleepâ at the State of the Union address by President Barack Obama in 2015 after drinking wine at dinner, brought by Justice Anthony Kennedy (!), in a joint appearance with Justice Antonin Scalia that was âhosted by The Smithsonian Associates and moderated by NPRâs Nina Totenbergâ according to CNN.
Finally they got to the State of the Union. Earlier in the evening, Scalia had expressed his disdain for the event that he stopped attending years ago. And Ginsburg admitted, that once again, she fell asleep, âas I often do.â
âThe audience for the most part is awake because they are bobbing up and down and we sit there, stone faced,â she said. âBut weâre not, at least I was not 100% sober,â she said to big applause. She blamed a fine wine Justice Kennedy had brought to dinner before hand.
âI vowed this year â just sparkling waterâstay away from the wine â but the dinner was so delicious it needed wine.â
She said when she got home she got a call from one of her granddaughters. âShe said, BUBIE, you were sleeping!â

The poster boy of the Democratic party.
The second wealthiest member of the U.S. Senate can buy many things â except a soldierâs pedigree.
Sen. Richard âDickâ Blumenthal loved to tout and brag about his extensive Vietnam war record.
Except for the part where he never saw combat during the Vietnam war.
Has this guy ever been to Vietnam, even for a vacation?
He says he was knee-deep in rice paddies, serving in Vietnam.
