Boy's body found in North Carolina creek confirmed to be Maddox Ritch

The body found in a North Carolina creek last week believed to be that of Maddox Ritch was confirmed on Monday to be the missing 6-year-old autistic boy, police said.

"Sadly, the body found in Long Creek on Thursday has been confirmed to be little Maddox Ritch," the Gastonia Police Department tweeted. "The investigation is ongoing."

Army doubles cannon range in prototype demo

YUMA PROVING GROUND, Ariz. – The Army fired a modified M777 howitzer double its previous range, bringing the service one step closer to delivering the prototype Long Range Cannon capability.

The live fire demonstration, which took place at Yuma Proving Ground on Sept. 19, was a significant step in the Army's effort to rapidly prototype and equip select units with an interim Long Range Cannon solution. This increase in firepower, targeted for Army Infantry and Stryker Brigade Combat Teams and Marine Corps Expeditionary Formations, is a subset of the Army's top modernization priority of Long-Range Precision Fires.

Girl among four people attacked at Florida gas station

SILVER SPRINGS, Fla. (CBS12) — A surveillance camera recorded a violent attack on four people, including a child, at a gas station in central Florida.

Two people ended up going to jail for the attack.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office shared the video on Facebook of an incident.

Deputies said the attack happened in the parking lot of a Circle K gas station on Sat., Sept. 22.

Investigators said one attacker pulled an 11-year-old girl out of a pickup truck and battered her.

According to the sheriff's office, the victims said they did not know the two attackers or what prompted the attack.

Deputies arrested 18-year-old Brandon Clanton and 18-year-old Julia Napiontek. Clanton faces charges of battery and simple assault on a law enforcement officer. Napiontek faces charges of battery and aggravated child abuse.

The sheriff's office said deputies arrested Clanton for a similar unprovoked attacked two months ago. Investigators said Clanton punched a 17-year-old outside a store. The teen needed seven stitches to close a wound on his face after the attack. Deputies charged Clanton with aggravated child abuse in that attack.
