New poll suggests Heidi Heitkamp in trouble if she votes against Kavanaugh, hurting Democrats' chances of Senate takeover

A new poll shows Republican challenger Rep. Kevin Cramer leading Sen. Heidi Heitkamp by a 10- point margin, with North Dakotans overwhelmingly in favor of confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Losing a race in North Dakota would make it significantly more difficult for Democrats to retake the Senate.

The poll, from Mason Dixon and North Dakota's NBC affiliate, shows Cramer opening up a 51 percent to 41 percent lead over the Democratic incumbent.

The poll also finds North Dakotans support the confirmation of Kavanaugh by a 60 percent to 27 percent margin. Furthermore, the survey found that at 21 percent, more people rated Kavanaugh as their top concern than any other single issue.

The poll was taken after sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against Kavanaugh, but before last week's hearing on the matter.

Should Democrats lose North Dakota, it would mean that they'd have to hold all of their other Senate seats in red states, win in Arizona and Nevada, and also win in either Texas or Tennessee.

Drug distributor pays feds $625 million for improperly repackaging vital cancer drugs

Major drug distributor AmerisourceBergen Corporation will pay the Justice Department $625 million to resolve allegations it improperly repackaged cancer drugs and exposed cancer patients to potentially unsafe products.

The settlement announced Monday concerned the company's treatment of the excess fluid that is often included in injectable drugs to treat cancer. Usually, manufacturers fill vials of liquid drugs beyond the intended dose to account for any loss of liquid in storage or when the drugs are delivered via syringes.

But AmerisourceBergen took that excess amount, called "overfill," and put it into syringes. It then sold those syringes to oncology practices to give to cancer-stricken patients, the Justice Department said.

“As part of this operation, ABC purchased original vials from their respective manufacturers, broke their sterility, pooled the contents, and repackaged the drugs into pre-filled syringes,” the Justice Department said in a release. “The United States alleged that ABC never submitted any safety, stability, or sterility data to the FDA to show that its operation ensured the safety and efficacy of the repackaged drug products.”

This is the latest settlement against one of the biggest drug distributors in the country.

AmerisourceBergen is also being sued by several states for its role in the opioid crisis. Several states like Kentucky allege the distributor neglected to identify large, suspicious packages of opioids sent to small and rural communities.

2018 midterm elections: Menendez-Hugin race for NJ Senate a 'dead heat,' poll says

The race between U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., and his Republican challenger, Bob Hugin, is a “statistical dead heat,” according to a Stockton University poll of likely voters released Monday.

Menendez’s two-point advantage — 45 percent to Hugin’s 43 percent — is within the poll’s margin of error. The results are the most striking indication yet of just how tight the race has become with five weeks until Election Day.

“The Senate race at this point is up for grabs,” said Michael W. Klein, interim executive director of the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton.

The last public poll on the race, released by Quinnipiac University on Aug. 22, showed Menendez with a six-point lead.

Everyone has got 'a bad report' from their past, says Trump: 'Except Mike Pence!'

President Trump made a joke about his vice president during his press conference on Monday in the White House Rose Garden.

'There are bad reports on everybody in here. Most of the people sitting down – except for Mike Pence by the way,' Trump said.

He added: 'And if we find one on him then that's going to be the greatest shock of all time'

Pence chuckled at Trump's remark.

While the president has a colorful past, Pence enjoys a squeaky clean reputation.
