My son once attended a private school outside of Hancock, NY. It's a small poverty stricken town and at the end of Main Street sits a gated-off community.
Islamaberg is said to be a community of an undisclosed number of Mooslims that escaped the rat-race of the city. Behind the private entrance are community grocery stores, multiple residences, a school, and many acres of land. It sits on the Delaware River- the headwaters to the NYC water supply.
Residents report many run-ins with the inhabitants of the encampment. If you visit the compound's entry gate, you will be stopped at a guard shack by men armed with guns. And some say that you sometimes can hear gunfire or even explosions coming from the area. "You'd better be careful if you go up there," several locals said. "They have guns."
On our many trips to visit my son at school, we often discussed how long it would be until this group would do something with their access to the water supply.
