Lona Juel Valmoro, the deputy chief of staff for Senator Robert G. Torricelli of New Jersey, and Gregory Ross Speed, the press secretary for Representative Martin Frost, Democrat of Texas, were married yesterday in Harwich Port, Mass. The Rev. Burton D. Strand, a Lutheran pastor, officiated at the Pilgrim Congregational Church.

 

Ms. Valmoro, 31, is keeping her name. She graduated from Rutgers University and received a master's degree with honors in comparative politics from the London School of Economics. She is a daughter of Joanne and Michael Valmoro of Mahwah, N.J. Her parents are retired high school English teachers, her father at Teaneck High School in Teaneck, N.J., and her mother at Mahwah High School.

 

Mr. Speed, 29, was also the communications director for Impac, the Democratic Party's national redistricting project whose chairman is Mr. Frost. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He is a son of Marilyn and Curt Speed of Deerfield, Ill. His mother is an event planner for the College of American Pathologists in Northfield, Ill. His father is a senior consultant in health benefits audit practice for Hewitt Associates, a human resources benefits consulting firm in Lincolnshire, Ill.

Lona Valmoro is a former Special Assistant to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Lona served as senior advisor to Clinton during her two terms in the US Senate and played key roles in Clinton's two campaigns for the US Senate and her 2008 bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Prior to her positions with Clinton, Valmoro worked on Senator Robert Torricelli's 1996 US Senate campaign and subsequently was Torricelli's Deputy Chief of Staff in the US Senate.

 

She earned her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and received her Master's degree with honors in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics.
