It's more sophisticated than that, Jordan. China owns a WHOLE BUNCH of US treasuries as a major cornerstone of their present economy. But they can only continue to maintain their economy if they maintain or improve their present level of export - to us. We're borrowing money from them to buy cheap plastic crap from them - net win them.

But they are weak. They are utterly dependent on foreign oil, which used to mean that they had to purchase on the open market and expend their dollars for oil. They cannot run their industrial economy or their military without it.

And now we're the biggest petroleum exporter in the world. Oil prices are rising. China has overextended its loan commitments for OBOR, an attempted expansion of the military and the improvement of the citizen's quality of life. They desperately need us to be a cooperating partner, complacent to their attempt to undermine us. If they piss us off, especially before they get 4 aircraft carriers, then we go to war, we cancel our debt with them, their economy crashes, and they face civil war.

Superior weapons only help if you have superior resources. Germany had superior weapons in WWII. But they didn't have any oil.
