NBC Affiliate Reporter Fired For Wearing MAGA Hat While Covering Trump Rally in Minnesota

A local reporter was fired this week for wearing a Make America Great Again hat while on the job.
KTTC multimedia journalist Jim Bunner dawned the MAGA cap while covering the rally held by President Donald Trump in Rochester, Minnesota this week. After a photograph was shared by the Minnesota-based newspaper Star Tribune, Bunner was fired the next day.
“He violated our policy so he’s no longer with us,” KTTC news director Noel Sederstrom told BuzzFeed News. “We don’t allow our people to wear campaign clothing while on assignment.”
This appears to be the first incident in which Bunner expressed his political views on the clock, but he does make it a bit more obvious on social media. He posted a video of himself dancing to “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang on Facebook on the day of President Trump’s inauguration.
Sederstrom did clarify that Bunner was only fired for wearing campaign gear while covering the political event and not because of his personal politics.
