Yep! My favorite teacher was a Colonel that I was lucky enough to have for American government. He encouraged civil debate daily in our classroom. Our final project was to find 12 media outlets and determine their bias (left v. Right) which as it turns out, was one of the most important lessons he could have ever taught us.
He was a conservative and vocal about it. But despite encouraging EVERYONE from all sides to engage in debate in his classroom, he was pressured to leave my old high school. He now teaches at a much smaller school in the middle of nowhere, GA.
Truly sad and unnerving considering my other great teacher who encouraged the same in her classroom and was equally vocal about her progressive views as he was his, and she is still at the same school and has received many awards.
