Back in college in the 1970's I attended a lecture that explained about cholesterol, how the body manufactures it for necessary purposes.

I was amazed then when about 10 years later, supposedly smart and highly trained doctors started with cholesterol-suppression therapies and recommendations. Are they stupid?

Well yes, or at least herd followers. I wonder if the first year or two of med school where they have to memorize "like a DVD" as one med student described it, and the sleep deprived tyranny of residency later, are designed to kill off their independent thinking habits, because they're pretty smart and highly selected to get into med school.
