Donald Trump: Alaska ‘Will Never Forgive’ Lisa Murkowski for Opposing Brett Kavanaugh

President Donald Trump warned Sen. Lisa Murkowski that she might face political retribution for her decision to oppose his nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

“I think she will never recover from this,” Trump said. “I think the people from Alaska will never forgive her for what she did.”

The president commented about the process in an interview with the Washington Post that was published on Saturday.

Murkowski voted against cloture for Kavanaugh’s confirmation on Friday. (On Saturday, Murkowski voted “no” on confirmation and later withdrew her vote to be marked “present” so that her Republican colleague in the Senate could attend his daughter’s wedding.)

The Senate confirmed Kavanaugh on Saturday afternoon with a final vote of 50-48.

Trump noted that he won Alaska easily over his failed challenger, Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, which might make it hard for Murkowski to remain in the Senate. He also reminded readers that he helped Alaska immensely by opening up drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The president had nothing but praise for Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who faced heavy pressure to vote against Kavanaugh but delivered a widely-praised speech in the Senate to explain why she would vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

“I think what Susan Collins did for herself was incredibly positive,” Trump said in the interview. “It showed her to be an honorable, incredible woman. I think she’s got a level of respect that’s unbelievable. I really mean it.”

‘JEDI’: The Pentagon’s Cloud Computing Contract Bidding War is Winner-Take-All

The US Defense Department (DoD) is running a competition to pick a cloud-computing company to store top national-security secrets and other crucial information. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft and International Business Machines Corp are among those looking to host the Pentagon’s abundance of information.

The DoD project, cleverly known as the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), consists of shifting much of the Pentagon's technology needs to a commercial cloud.

Placing Pentagon technology systems into the cloud would make it easier for the US military information infrastructure to transfer and integrate data sets, as well as make global security upgrades to software across the entire platform, according to reports.

DOD spokeswoman Heather Babb told TechCrunch that has department sees benefit for building an enterprise cloud.

"Single award is advantageous because, among other things, it improves security, improves data accessibility and simplifies the Department's ability to adopt and use cloud services," Babb said in a statement.

"The DOD Cloud Initiative is part of a much larger effort to modernize the Department's information technology enterprise. The foundation of this effort is rationalizing the number of networks, data centers and clouds that currently exist in the Department," Babb added.

Industry observers suggest that Amazon, which won a $600 million cloud contract with the CIA in 2013, may be the Pentagon's top runner. In addition, Amazon has the highest security clearances for its cloud infrastructure.

Other companies bidding on the project include Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Hewlett Packard, SAP America, General Dynamics Corp.'s CSRA, Red Hat Inc. and VMware Inc.

According to DoD documents posted online, the contract could be worth as much as $10 billion over 10 years.

Tech companies and industry pundits have questioned the Pentagon's decision to use a single provider for the project, arguing that a single-source approach could threaten innovation.

According to the Pentagon, however, dividing information across several clouds would prevent the department from being able to easily access and analyze information data. In a report given to the US Congress, the Pentagon argued that "a common environment for computing and data storage" improves machine learning, Bloomberg reported.

"Preplanned Murder": Turkey Says 15-Member Saudi Hit Team Murdered Journalist Inside Consulate

In a shocking twist to an already mysterious and bizarre saga, Turkish investigators say they believe that prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul after he entered on routine business four days ago.

Khashoggi's fiance, who was waiting outside at the time of his disappearance on Tuesday, said he simply never came out. Since that time there's been an international outcry and search for the missing journalist — a Washington Post columnist and former editor of a couple major Saudi newspapers — who had a reputation as an outspoken critic of Saudi Arabia's rulers. He was initially widely reported "detained" inside the consul premises by Saudi authorities.

Saudi officials have vehemently denied having ever detained Khashoggi and have repeatedly said he freely left the embassy not long after he entered. The Saudi crown prince (MBS) himself on Friday invited Turkish authorities to enter the building to conduct an investigation, telling Bloomberg: "We are ready to welcome the Turkish government to go and search our premises," he said of the consulate which is Saudi sovereign territory. "We will allow them to enter and search and do whatever they want to do…We have nothing to hide," MBS added.
