I've taught adult drop-outs ... many of whom were old enough to leave school legally in early 6th grade -- and did. All their lives they had been told that they were stupid. They weren't stupid, the school system is incompetent.

Once you get them set on fire, you stop being a teacher and become a tour guide pointing out the interesting parts -- the anomalies, the contradictions and so on. They'll go faster than you could possibly lead them.
