Fellow USN vet and investigator I think for the most part we are on the same page. Creativity is wonderful and you need it make a leap in logic sometimes, but I think creativity is often amok here. And people have been trained for instant gratification, so they need to be untrained. These days, they try to wait out the 72hr window in the memory cycle and sweep stuff away with a new crisis or shiny object. A lot of these guys are afraid that the same old, same old is happening. It isn't. When they see that, they will calm down.
This is not the first time. Lockerby was another. Or at least a ridiculously convenient flight with dead people. At least they proved that was a bombing.

What do we know or can we know anout him? The Russian papers, and EU outlets are still saying 65+6, but they are always slow to fix things. Do you have a link to this guy deciding not to go? Perhaps God whispered in his ear, or … not.

Not enough photos. Look for video footage that shows more, or a scene they are not allowed to enter as media. To point to one piece of wreckage is not enough to make that assumption. Media isn't always allowed to photograph scenes and so they will try to draw your eye like that. Not uncommon.
