Longtime Republican operative Peter Smith raised at least $100,000 to obtain what he thought were emails stolen from Hillary Clinton in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal on Sunday.

The Journal last year reported Smith's attempts to obtain Clinton's deleted emails from hackers in the weeks running up to the 2016 election.

The paper reported Sunday that Smith gained $100,000 from at least four backers and contributed $50,000 of his own money toward the effort.

The donations were made in the name of a Washington scholarship fund for Russian students, according to the Journal. The newspaper could not determine whether the scholarship fund existed.

However, the donations were referenced in an email titled "Wire Instructions—Clinton Email Reconnaissance Initiative" that the Journal reviewed in an account used by Smith.

The Journal reported that it could not determine who sent the email, as many people had access to the Gmail account.

Smith's attempts to gain Clinton's emails have come under scrutiny as special counsel Robert Mueller probes alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.

Smith believed the emails were hacked by Russians and in recruiting help for his effort reportedly claimed a connection to President Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

Smith, the White House and an official for Trump’s campaign all denied that Smith worked for them during his attempt to obtain the emails, according to the Journal.

Smith died after detailing his work to the Journal last year.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/410329-south-korea-kim-has-agreed-to-meet-with-trump-again-as-soon-as

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has reportedly agreed to hold a second summit with President Trump "as soon as possible."

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo relayed that message to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, South Korean leader's office said in a statement, according to multiple reports.

Pompeo, who met with Kim on Sunday, told Moon that Kim agreed to meet with Trump at a summit that "should be held as soon as possible," the statement reportedly said.

Moon's office also indicated that the U.S. and North Korea are still discussing when and where the meeting will be held.

Trump wrote in a tweet Sunday that he looks forward to seeing Kim in the "near future."

".@SecPompeo had a good meeting with Chairman Kim today in Pyongyang. Progress made on Singapore Summit Agreements! I look forward to seeing Chairman Kim again, in the near future," Trump tweeted.

Trump and Kim held their first summit over the summer in Singapore in what was a historic moment for the longtime foes. Kim promised to give up his nuclear weapons in exchange for sanctions relief from the U.S., but the two sides did not agree to a specific timeline.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said last month that the White House was "already in the process of coordinating" a second summit and that the summit was "certainly something we want to take place."

Florida Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum's campaign said Sunday that he is suspending his campaign activity on Monday and Tuesday to address preparations for Tropical Storm Michael, which is forecast to make a direct hit on Tallahassee, where Gillum is mayor.

The forecast indicates the tropical storm could strengthen to a hurricane by early Wednesday and will likely target the Florida panhandle later that day, according to CNN meteorologist Gene Norman.

Gillum was scheduled to campaign in South Florida on Monday and Tuesday. The Florida gubernatorial election is just weeks away, on November 6.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced Sunday that he will issue an executive order declaring a state of emergency for counties in the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend as the state continues to prepare and monitor the storm.
