Kek, reminds me of this joke about the lowly comma.

 

Professor writes this sentence on the board without any commas and asks the class to punctuate:

 

Woman without her man is nothing.

 

All the males in the class punctuate thusly:

 

Woman, without her man, is nothing.

 

And all the females punctuated like so:

 

Woman, without her, man is nothing.

Unfortunately, yes, a lot of people have died in the name of Jesus Christ; most notably during the Crusades when the Pope would grant forgiveness for one's sins if one enlisted for the good of the church.

Jesus told the rich man to give up all he owns to find the Father because that is what that particular individual needed to do to find God. I take that as a parable/metaphor for the lesson that we must give up all that we covet in order to find God, not necessarily everything we own. For example, I spend a lot of time here, probably too much time here. Would it be wiser for me to give up time on QResearch than to give away all my belongings to the poor?
