Some news from Scotland concerning the worlds richest man.

.Scots Amazon warehouse staff 'forced to work in sub-zero temperatures' overnight

Staff at an Amazon warehouse have allegedly been forced to work in sub-zero temperatures.

The workers at the facility run by the US retail giants are reported to have been ordered to operate in temperatures of 3C, which fell below zero overnight.

The UK Government’s Health and Safety Executive advise that warehouses should have a temperature of at least 13C.

The allegations at the plant in Dundee came as it was revealed that more than 440 serious accidents have been reported at the firm’s UK warehouses since 2015.

The numbers of accidents have doubled in four years and include fractures, head injuries and collisions with heavy equipment. Trade union the GMB used an FOI request to find out the data about Amazon, owned by the world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos.

The company, who have faced criticism over staff wages and the size of their tax payments, would not comment on specific incidents. But a spokesman said: “Amazon is a safe place to work and reports to the contrary are simply wrong.”

Jack Dromey, Labour MP and Shadow Work and Pensions Minister, said: “A supposed 21st century company, Amazon, are guilty of behaving like a 19th century mill owner, putting their workers at risk in pursuit of profit.”
