Russia claims ‘misunderstanding’ led to arrests of four spies in Holland
Russia’s minister of foreign affairs has downplayed the arrest and expulsion of four Russian military intelligence officers in Holland last April, saying that the incident was caused by a “misunderstanding”. Last Thursday, the US government named and indicted seven officers of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of Russia’s Armed Forces, known as GRU. The seven are alleged to have participated in cyber-attacks on international agencies, private companies and government computer networks in at least half a dozen countries around the world since 2015. Four of the men named last week were reportedly detained in April of this year while trying to hack into the computer network of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Headquartered in The Hague, the OPCW oversees efforts by its 193 member states to detect and eliminate chemical weapons stockpiles around the world. In the past year, the OPCW has been probing the failed attempt to poison the Russian former double spy Sergei Skripal in England, which the British government has blamed on Moscow.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in says ‘new order’ being formed on South Korean Peninsula
President Moon Jae-in on Monday said the geopolitical order on the South Korean Peninsula was taking on a new form, citing developments concerning North Korea.
“Separately from the North-US summit, Chairman Kim Jong-un is set to visit Russia, and a visit to North Korea by President Xi Jinping is expected in the near future,” Moon said at Monday’s Cabinet meeting.
“In addition, the possibility of a North Korea-Japan summit is open. A new order on the South Korean Peninsula is being formed. A new order on the Korean Peninsula will lead to a new order in Northeast Asia.”
Valentina Matviyenko, chairwoman of Russia’s Federation Council, revealed on Friday that Moscow and Pyongyang were working to arrange a visit for Kim, while Beijing was reportedly weighing options for a fourth meeting between Xi and Kim.
Moon went on to say that the process was necessary to establish a permanent peace on the peninsula. He also said that Seoul must cooperate with the US and other concerned nations on “dismantling the last Cold War on Earth.”

Baker told lawmakers he wasn’t in the meeting that McCabe had with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in which the subject came up. But he did have firsthand conversations with McCabe and the FBI lawyer assigned to McCabe, Lisa Page, about the issue
“As far as Baker was concerned, this was a real plan being discussed,” said a source directly familiar with the congressional investigation. “It was no laughing matter for the FBI.”
