THEIR CRIMES – THEY KNOW ONE OF THE 9/11 "BOMBERS"

Avichai Sharon and Noam Chayut served during the second intifada, an on-going bloodbath that has claimed the lives of over three thousand Palestinians and nine-hundred-fifty Israelis. After thorough introspection, these young men have chosen to speak out about their experiences as self-described "brutal occupiers of a disputed land."

I transcribed the portion that includes information about 9/11, but please listen to the entire interview.

FIRST PERSON (CHAYUT?) at 22:22 [Speaking about one of the soldiers who was interviewed for the film]. "I can give you another extreme example which a soldier that [inaudible] interviewed, uh one of us interviewed and he's in a unit that uh, Engineer unit. They're actually, what they're doing is to blow up things - bridges, houses, and [inaudible] didn't do them at the beginning of [inaudible].

The first time they used them was 9/11. Ten minutes after the airplane hit the tower, the first airplane hit the tower, they were on their way to [Jenine?] to blow up houses. Why that? I can tell you what he says, the soldier that was interviewed – ‘that Big Brother wasn't looking, wasn't watching.’ So that’s how much things are connected.

And, I think we realized after the second campaign, after the campaign of the rules of engagement and the systematic reason for innocent casualties, we realized that it was well publicized but it didn't bring up any real debate in society. And, because this is, the main reason, the most powerful one I think is that these are things you can't criticize. I mean you can't classify as rotten apple. It's hard for society to take. And I think we realize that there is a bigger game going on; that we are not the only player in this game and that's why we're here.”

SECOND PERSON (SHARON?): “….[referring to intifada] People sat down in offices and decided to kill people as revenge. ….We weren't expecting something dramatic to change….Do you really think that the Israeli public or someone will be brave enough to say that the Minister of Defense has to be investigated, that the Chief of Staff has to be investigated. This is not a 19-20 year-old or even a Lieutenant that should be investigated. This is the system; this is the government; this is the policy…

I think to just add one thing, that the public opinion of the United States is, as he said, something that enables us to continue this reality. Just like we're doing back home trying to force sometimes this truth, the stories onto the Israeli public so they'll be aware of them is exactly what we came here to do, is to bring this to the homes of the American society, Jews, Americans and all Americans. To tell them this is what is really going on, it is about time you know what you're enabling.”
