A related and true Kentucky story is found in Sally Denton's "Bluegrass Conspiracy." A KT "blueblood" and policeman (Drew Thornton) became a drug lord out of Lexington. Same reason as hemp growing: save the farms. His demise also was coke. He parachuted with way too much in his backpack. That didn't work.
